District 214 Parents Invited To Hear Presentation From Lorenzo Santillan

High School District 214 parents are invited to hear a presentation from Lorenzo Santillan, a Mexican immigrant who beat the nation’s most talented engineering students in a robotics competition.

 

Santillan was part of a team of undocumented high school students in Phoenix, Ariz. who built an underwater robot in 2004 that won a robotics competition against MIT and other prestigious universities. The story inspired a feature film and documentary.

 

The presentation will be held at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at the Forest View Educational Center.

 

Santillan will visit with Career and Technical Education classes during the day and will then introduce a screening of the documentary about his story – Underwater Dreams – in the Forest View theater at 5 p.m.

 

In addition to Santillan’s presentation, there will be student awards and a performance by Wheeling High School's Crucial Step Clique.
