The inagural class of the Wheeling High School Athletic Hall of Fame was inducted between basketball games on Friday, January 19, 2007. Inductees shown below - also pictures of Presentation and Reception.

Pat Ritchie - Coach and Athletic Director

Pat Ritchie was a pioneer in establishing girls’ sports in the State of Illinois and the Mid Suburban League. Pat spent 25 years teaching physical education at Wheeling High School, and also served as the Girls Athletic Director for 28 years. In her time as a coach, Pat coached badminton, cheerleading and softball. As the softball coach, Pat started Wheeling’s program and was the head coach for 21 years. In 1992, Pat was inducted into the Illinois Girls’ Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
John E. Peterson - Friend of Athletics

John Peterson was instrumental in establishing the Wheeling High School Booster Club. Through John’s leadership, the Wildcat Spur Club became a highly visible and effective organization. In John’s time with the Spur Club, he helped raise funds to re-light the stadium, build a weight room, and get new scoreboards for the stadium, gymnasium, field house and pool. John spent over 15 years as an active member of the Wildcat Spur Club, many of those as its president.
Jack Bastable - Athletics

Considered by many to be the greatest athlete in the history of Wheeling High School, Jack Bastable made many contributions to the Wheeling athletic program. In 1967 and 1968, Jack was named to the Mid Suburban League All Conference Team in football and baseball, and to the All State Football Team in 1967 and 1968. He was named to the Mid Suburban League All Conference Team in basketball in 1968, and was a member of the 1968-69 I.H.S.A. Regional Basketball Championship Team.
E. Elliott “Bus” Ormsbee Athletic Administrator

Bus Ormsbee started his career in District 214 as a teacher and coach at Arlington High School. He spent 2 years as an assistant football coach, and 13 years as the head coach at Arlington. In 1964, Bus became the Athletic Director at Wheeling High School. As the first athletic director at Wheeling, Bus was responsible for setting up all of the athletic programs. Bus was also instrumental in establishing the Wheeling Athletic Booster Club, the Wildcat Spur Club.
Dana Miroballi Athletics

Dana Miroballi was an outstanding cross country and track athlete at Wheeling High School. In cross-country, Dana was a member of two I.H.S.A. state championship teams in 1984 and 1986. Dana was also a four time state champion in cross-country. She remains the only four time cross-country champion when the sport had only one class. In track and field, Dana was a member of three I.H.S.A. state runner-up teams. Dana was also a four time state champion in the 3200-meter run, a two time state champion in the 1600-meter run, and in 1985 she was a High School All American in the 3200-meter run. In 1988 she was the Athlete of the Year for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, and March of Dimes.
