Making a Citation for a Subscription Database Article

Step 1:

Do your searching and take notes from your article from the 214 Library Resources page. When you are ready to make your citation, go to the suggested MLA source citation at the end of the article and copy the author, title, and where it was originally printed. Paste the information into a WORD document.

Step 2:

Go to the citation page for the subscription site you used on the 214 Library Resources page. Find the example for the database you used. Copy the information from the Sample citation and paste that into your document.

Step 3:

Make any necessary corrections to the citation, following the format of the Sample citation.

Step 4:
To format the citation correctly, it needs to have a hanging indent (all the lines after the first are indented). To find the directions for this, go to the  WHS Library web page and click on the “Technology/Tutorials” link. In the column on the right, under the “Microsoft Word” heading, click on the link for “Hanging Indent” in the “Document” section. Follow the directions on this page to format your document with hanging indents.

Note:

Be sure you:

•Do not use italics - anything italicized should be underlined instead

•Use the correct format

•Alphabetize all entries by the first word

•Double space the entire list, with  NO EXTRA SPACES between entries
