STUDENT GUIDELINES
FOR USING INFORMATION RESOURCES
These guidelines are intended to provide uniformity throughout the building as you use our information resources and online services. You are responsible for following each guideline. Noncompliance could result in loss of access to resource areas within Wheeling High School.
General Policies:
A Wheeling High School ID is required for student use of resources, materials and equipment throughout the school. Keep your ID with you at all times.
All students must sign in and/or check in with the area supervisor if not accompanied by a teacher.
All student work must be saved to a floppy disk. Disks cannot be shared, and individual work will not be saved to hard drives.
Printing:
Permission to print must be obtained from the room supervisor prior to printing. At this time, the supervisor can assist you with recommendations relating to margins, fonts, spacing, contents and footer and header documentation. Printing should be limited to no more than THREE total pages. Multiple copies will not be permitted. If additional copies are needed, students and staff must use a Xerox machine, a commercial printing house (Kinkos) or the copier in the library.
Using the Internet:
Students are required to display a Wheeling High School ID with a NET sticker prior to accessing Internet. If two students are working together at one computer, both ID's with NET sticker authorization must be displayed. All students are required to have a disk to save files. Sharing of disks is not permitted .
Students receive NET stickers after the following have been completed:
(a) District 214 Internet Use Agreement signed and on file(b) Network Etiquette form signed and on file
(c) Wheeling High School Internet training has been completed.
Internet training must include How to Access Netscape; Basic Searching Skills; Use of Buttons on the Tool Bar and Menu Bar; and How and Where to Save Documents using Claris Works.
Student Internet time may be limited in order to accommodate class use.
District 214 Internet Use Guidelines and Network Etiquette and Use agreement provisions will be enforced throughout the school.
Inappropriate searching and/or failure to leave an inappropriate site will result in loss of Internet privilege.
Recreational surfing will not be allowed in the library.
