Wheeling High School English teacher Sandra Gruen has been selected for the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator Award.
Gruen, who is also the Yearbook sponsor at Wheeling, was nominated by a former student. She has been teaching at Wheeling for 21 years.
Every year, the University of Chicago receives letters from hundreds of admitted students, inspired by teachers who have changed the course of their lives through excellent teaching and mentorship. The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes teachers who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to the education and personal development of their students.
“Wheeling High School is lucky to have Sandra as a staff member, and it’s no surprise that she was selected for this prestigious award,” said Tim Piatek, Wheeling’s English and Fine Arts division head.
